Today, I have decided from the point I saw the email about blood donating. I was very afraid of it for the first semester when I heard about it. I am scared of the needles. Haha… but I put up my courage at about 1130am after the second meeting and went straight down to the forum to do up a form then start the procedure. I was first being questioned by the doctor about my medical history and stuffs. Then I had myself sit beside a nurse who pricked on my hand to get a blood test of something. And I found out that I have low iron in my blood. This was a gene pass down by my mum… the prick is painful as is like a stapler being poke into the finger. Then I proceed on to lie on the chair with the help of some nurse as I felt abit lost and didn’t know what to do. Haha… I really was very nervous that I can hear my heart beat. The nurses are very nice. They explained the procedure of it. They clean the area on my hand where they have to poke the needle in with alcohol. A cool feeling on my hand and then they tell me that they will inject a solution to num the surface of my hand so i will not hurt so much as the needle is very thick.
I have to squeeze a stess ball thingy so that my blood can flow better. They let me choose from pumkin, apple or tomato. I chose apple! Its so cute! After about 10 minutes, the packet is full of my blood. OMG!!! My blood! I am feeling so cold on my palm. I have then to rest for awhile and press on the needle hole to stop the blood from continue flowing out. Before they help me dress up with a cute tape. Then one of them lead me for some refreshments and had some rest as they were afraid that I may faint or something. But I am totally fine and did not feel much discomfort. So this is my very first experience of donating blood. And hope it will save one's life.
